Is SolidGigs worth $35/month for freelancers?
If you already know how to pitch clients but spend too much of your week hunting through job boards, SolidGigs is one of the few services built specifically to reduce that search time. We checked what it costs, what it actually does, where it falls short, and the alternatives before deciding who should pay for it.
Our editorial verdict: SolidGigs is worth a trial for freelancers who value curated lead discovery and want to keep the client relationship outside a marketplace. It is not a good fit if you need guaranteed work, built-in payment protection, or a completely free way to find opportunities.
Trust boundary: This is a manually researched editorial guide, not an A✓/CHECKED verification record. We do not claim the automated research system completed this decision.
The problem SolidGigs is trying to solve
Freelancing has two jobs: doing paid work and finding the next piece of paid work. The second job can consume hours across job boards, marketplaces, social posts, RFPs and referrals. SolidGigs sells a shortcut to that search process rather than a marketplace where the work itself happens.
According to SolidGigs, you create search rules around factors such as keywords, location and budget. Its team and matching tools search multiple lead sources, put matching opportunities in your dashboard, and send alerts. When you decide to pitch, SolidGigs sends you to the original source instead of requiring the client relationship to stay inside SolidGigs.
What it costs right now
Monthly
$35/month
14-day free trial. SolidGigs describes the monthly plan as zero commitment and says you can cancel anytime.
Yearly
$350/year
Advertised as $29/month when billed annually. The same 14-day free trial is offered.
Trial warning: SolidGigs' Terms of Use say you must cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged. The terms also say refunds or prorated adjustments are not guaranteed if you fail to cancel on time. Anyone testing the service should treat the trial deadline as a real billing deadline.
Why we think it can be worth paying for
- It attacks search time directly. The product is built around finding and filtering freelance leads rather than asking you to browse one marketplace manually.
- You control the search rules. SolidGigs says users can filter around location, budget, keywords and other criteria instead of receiving one generic feed.
- It does not take a percentage of your client paycheck. SolidGigs charges the subscription price for lead discovery and sends you to the original source to pitch.
- It can fit an existing freelance business. This is most useful when you already know what services you sell, what a good client looks like and how to send a credible pitch.
Where SolidGigs loses
- No job is guaranteed. Paying for lead discovery does not guarantee that a lead will fit, reply, hire you or become profitable.
- It is not a full marketplace. Unlike marketplaces that keep contracts and payments inside the platform, SolidGigs sends you to the original opportunity. You are responsible for evaluating the client and handling the relationship.
- Free alternatives exist. Contra lets freelancers create a profile, find opportunities and receive commission-free payments on its free tier. Upwork also gives access to a large marketplace, although most proposals use Connects and freelancer service fees can range from 0% to 15% per contract.
- The subscription costs money whether you win work or not. That makes SolidGigs a poor choice for someone who is not yet ready to pitch consistently.
- Billing deserves attention. Customer feedback is positive overall on Trustpilot, but recent and historical one-star reviews include complaints about trial billing or cancellation. SolidGigs has publicly disputed some of those complaints, so we treat the issue as a caution rather than a proven universal problem.
Who should try it
Best fit
- You already have a portfolio or credible work history.
- You know what kind of freelance client you want.
- You are comfortable pitching opportunities directly.
- Your bigger problem is finding leads, not delivering the work.
- Saving search time is worth more to you than keeping every tool free.
Skip it for now
- You are still figuring out what service to sell.
- You need a platform to manage contracts and payments for you.
- You expect a subscription to guarantee clients.
- You are unwilling to track the trial cancellation date.
- You prefer browsing free job marketplaces yourself.
SolidGigs vs. the obvious alternatives
Upwork
Better if you want a large marketplace with built-in proposal, contract and payment infrastructure. The tradeoff is marketplace competition, Connects for most proposals, and a freelancer service fee that Upwork currently says can range from 0% to 15% per contract.
Contra
Better if your priority is starting free and using a marketplace/profile ecosystem. Contra says freelancers can create a profile, find work, send proposals and receive commission-free payments on the free tier, with Pro features available separately.
Why SolidGigs still wins for this specific problem: if your bottleneck is the time spent looking across sources—not the lack of a marketplace account—paying a flat subscription for curated lead discovery is a cleaner fit than adding another marketplace to browse.
The decision
We would not recommend SolidGigs to every freelancer. We would recommend testing it to a freelancer who is already capable of converting a good lead and wants to reclaim time currently spent searching for those leads. The 14-day trial makes that test measurable: judge it by the relevance of the opportunities you receive and whether the service saves enough search time to justify the ongoing price.
