Pick SolidGigs when freelance lead hunting is the bottleneck
SolidGigs currently advertises a 14-day free trial, $35 monthly access and $350 annual billing displayed as roughly a $29/month equivalent. It describes a paid lead-generation workflow that searches multiple sources, sends matched gigs to the user's dashboard/email and routes the freelancer to the original source to pitch. SolidGigs says it does not take a percentage of client pay.
Its current Terms require cancellation before the 14-day trial ends to avoid the selected-plan charge and do not guarantee refunds or prorated adjustments for late cancellation or at another point. Cancel-anytime marketing and refund rights are separate.
Wellfound is free for candidates—but employer products are separate
Wellfound currently says creating a profile and applying to jobs is free for candidates, while its Jobs Terms describe Standard Jobs as free for Candidates. Its employer recruiting surface separately offers free job posts plus paid Job Ads and paid sourcing/recruiting products. Those employer-side economics are not candidate subscription fees, listing-legitimacy proof, recruiter-responsiveness proof or hiring guarantees.
Wellfound is a startup and tech employment workflow, not freelance client lead curation
Wellfound positions itself around startup and technology employment. Candidates can browse jobs, apply, build profiles, be discovered by founders or recruiters and see salary/equity information on many listings. That is materially different from SolidGigs' freelance client/project lead workflow, where the freelancer evaluates a lead and pitches the original source.
Remote does not mean every role is work from anywhere
Wellfound promotes remote startup jobs and exposes remote-only, timezone and US-hours preferences. Individual listings and matching can still preserve country, location, timezone, schedule and work-authorization requirements. Treat each job's actual eligibility terms as controlling; a remote label does not create universal geographic eligibility.
Salary and equity visibility are useful—but not guaranteed offers
Wellfound highlights salary and equity information on many listings. Those ranges and percentages are useful discovery data, but they remain listing/provider information rather than guaranteed final offers, guaranteed total compensation or proof that a candidate will receive the stated terms. Confirm compensation with the employer during the hiring process.
Applications expose information to the hiring company
Wellfound support says candidates submit applications through the platform, may add an introductory note and can expose their Jobs Profile or resume to the company. Submitted applications cannot simply be undone and may later expire after inactivity. This is an employer-application workflow, not a freelance client pitch, contract or payment-protection system.
Understand public-profile and Jobs Profile visibility separately
Wellfound distinguishes a public profile from a Jobs Profile. Recruiter visibility can depend on whether a candidate applies or enables job-search visibility, while current-employer hiding protections depend on correctly configured work-history/profile settings. Do not assume every Wellfound profile surface has identical visibility or that the platform guarantees universal anonymity.
Recruiter discovery is an opportunity mechanism—not an outcome guarantee
Wellfound Source Terms say candidates may, at Wellfound's discretion, be included in employer search results and contacted through the Source Service. That can create inbound recruiter discovery, but it does not prove recruiter interest, interview probability, offers or hiring.
Your application data can sync into an employer ATS
Wellfound's Applicant Sync documentation says candidate information can be sent into connected employer applicant-tracking systems, including identity, contact/profile details, resume, remote preference, work authorization and application information. That creates a downstream data-governance boundary: employer systems and their own retention, security and privacy practices matter too.
The reusable AI interview has beta and sharing limits
Wellfound currently markets a reusable AI interview. Its support documentation says the feature is beta and not available to every candidate, records audio/video and lets candidates choose whether to attach the interview to an application. Optional fast-tracking to other companies is separately controlled. Do not treat the feature as automatically shared with every employer or as a guaranteed shortcut to review, interviews or hiring.
Large platform counts are provider marketing, not winner proof
Wellfound currently publishes dynamic figures such as 27,000+ startups, 10M+ candidates, 100K+ hires and more than 130k remote/local startup jobs. These are provider-controlled figures and have not been independently normalized against SolidGigs. They do not by themselves prove superior inventory quality, better fit or better outcomes.
Which one fits your situation?
Pick SolidGigs when…
- You are specifically pursuing freelance clients or projects rather than salaried startup employment.
- You already know what service you sell and how to evaluate and pitch leads.
- You want curation across multiple sources to reduce repetitive prospecting.
- Saving that time can justify $35 monthly or $350 annually.
Pick Wellfound when…
- Your main goal is startup or technology employment.
- You want free candidate access and standard applications.
- You value recruiter discovery and salary/equity visibility.
- You will still verify country, timezone, work-authorization and compensation terms for each role.
- You understand profile visibility, employer ATS synchronization and AI-interview sharing conditions.
Use both only when both work paths are real options
If you are genuinely deciding between independent freelance work and startup/tech employment, run them as separate searches. Test Wellfound's free candidate workflow for eligible employment roles. Evaluate SolidGigs independently as a paid freelance client-acquisition tool. Do not combine unlike opportunity inventories or provider marketing into one winner score.
Important limitations

- Wellfound's free candidate access is separate from employer-side Job Ads, sourcing and recruiting products.
- Remote discovery does not mean universal country, timezone or work-authorization eligibility.
- Salary and equity ranges are not guaranteed final compensation or offer terms.
- Public-profile visibility, Jobs Profile visibility and current-employer hiding rules are distinct.
- Recruiter discovery does not guarantee recruiter interest, interviews or hiring.
- Candidate information may sync into employer ATS systems with separate downstream data handling.
- The reusable AI interview is beta/not universally available and is subject to candidate-controlled sharing conditions.
- Provider startup, candidate, job and hire counts are not independently audited winner evidence.
