SolidGigs vs Malt: external lead discovery or a managed freelance marketplace?

Choose SolidGigs when you already run your own sales, contract and payment workflow and want to reduce lead-hunting time. Choose Malt when profile-based project discovery, quotes, invoicing, prepayment/escrow and conditional Fast Payment solve a bigger operational problem—and you accept service fees, KYC/KYB and platform payment rules.

AlreadyChecked Verdict

No universal winner: choose external lead discovery or a managed freelance marketplace.

SolidGigs fits freelancers who already run their own sales, contract and payment workflow and mainly want less lead hunting. Malt fits freelancers who value profile-based project discovery, quotes, invoicing, prepayment/escrow and conditional Fast Payment and accept service-fee, compliance and payment-mode rules.

Best for you if… you decide whether acquisition efficiency or managed project/payment administration solves the more expensive problem in your freelance workflow.

There is no honest universal winner. These services do not price the same workflow, so $35 versus a percentage cannot decide the answer by itself.

SolidGigs vs Malt at a glance

SolidGigs

Best for: freelancers with mature client operations who want less external lead hunting.

Current cost: 14-day free trial, then $35/month or $350/year.

Model: external lead curation; provider says it takes no percentage of freelancer earnings.

Malt

Best for: freelancers who value a managed project, quote, invoice and payment workflow.

Current freelancer fee: generally 5% excl. tax under Malt’s August 2026 guidance, with important project/country exceptions.

Payment: prepayment/escrow and conditional Fast Payment can apply, but neither is a universal guarantee.

Malt’s newest fee page controls—not older fee tables

Malt’s freelancer-fee article updated August 6, 2026 says freelancer service fees are generally 5% excl. tax. For certain projects in France, Spain and Belgium, the standard freelancer service fee may be 10% excl. tax and then drop to 5% excl. tax after 6 months on the assignment.

The exact fee shown when the freelancer creates the quote controls. We therefore do not reuse older country schedules such as 10%/5%/2% as a current global rule.

Malt payment speed depends on the payment mode

Prepayment projects: the client prepays and funds can be held in escrow until project/activity validation. Funding, validation and any final adjusted balance remain conditions, so escrow is not unconditional guaranteed payment.

Fast Payment / cash advance: eligible projects can pay the freelancer within 10 days after the client validates completion/activity. Eligibility is dynamic, including legal-document and client-financial criteria, and Malt says financing partners control the final decision.

Invoice-delay projects: when cash advance is unavailable, current guidance says client accounting terms can be roughly 30–60 days. Malt should not be described as always paying instantly or within 10 days.

The freelancer/client contract and dispute boundary still matters

Malt’s dispute guidance says the service contract, quote and invoice in the direct model are signed between the freelancer and client. Malt may facilitate communication and help clarify options, but it cannot determine work quality, force completion or require a client to pay an invoice.

Malt’s professional-liability insurance covers defined risks subject to policy terms and exclusions. It does not turn every project into guaranteed payment, guaranteed service quality or guaranteed dispute reimbursement.

Malt is broadly available, not universally worldwide

Current Malt help lists many open registration countries, including the United States, but also maintains restrictions. Eligibility depends on registration country and legal form.

Malt requires identity and business/legal-document validation for compliance. Depending on country and entity type, that can include ID, recent proof of registration, company documents and beneficial-owner information. Account creation does not erase KYC/KYB requirements.

Which one fits you?

I already manage contracts, invoices and collections

SolidGigs fits better when the acquisition bottleneck is simply finding more external opportunities.

I want project administration and payment tooling in the channel

Malt fits better when marketplace discovery, quotes, invoicing and conditional payment infrastructure justify the fee and compliance rules.

I want a guaranteed payment date

Neither comparison supports that promise. Malt payment depends on funding, validation and eligibility; SolidGigs leaves payment terms to the downstream client/source.

I work from the United States

Malt’s current open-country list includes the United States, but legal-document validation and project eligibility still apply.

A practical two-channel test

  1. Use the same freelance offer and target-client profile.
  2. Track SolidGigs lead relevance, pitch rate, wins and time saved.
  3. Track Malt proposals/matches, fee shown on each quote, project wins, payment mode, validation time and net payout timing.
  4. Compare net revenue and operational effort, not headline fee arithmetic.
