SEO & competitive intelligence comparison

Semrush vs Similarweb: which tool is better?

Neither is a universal winner. Semrush is the stronger first choice when recurring SEO execution, daily rank monitoring, Site Audit, keyword research and AI-search visibility are the core job. Similarweb is the stronger first choice when broader competitor traffic, channel, audience and market intelligence are central. Its higher SEO+AEO tier overlaps more directly with Semrush.

AlreadyChecked Verdict

Choose Semrush for recurring SEO execution; choose Similarweb for broader competitive intelligence—or its SEO+AEO tier when you need both market intelligence and search tooling together.

The right comparison depends on the actual package. Similarweb's $125 Competitive Intelligence tier and $333 Competitive Intel + SEO + AEO tier do not have the same scope, so comparing Semrush only with Similarweb's lowest headline price can distort the decision.

Best for you if… you compare package scope, historical data, user count, tracked prompts and workflow—not vendor-authored winner claims or raw allowance counts.

Current self-service pricing is not one-to-one

OptionChecked pricingCurrent scope
Semrush SEO$139/month or $117.33/month equivalent when billed annually5 monitored websites; 500 keywords tracked daily; keyword/competitor research, Position Tracking, Site Audit and AI-search visibility
Similarweb Competitive Intelligence$125/month equivalent billed annually or $199 month-to-month1 user; 3 months historical data; competitor traffic, website performance, engagement, demographics, channels and alerts
Similarweb Competitive Intel + SEO + AEO$333/month equivalent billed annually or $399 month-to-month1 user; 6 months historical data; competitive intelligence plus keyword research, Rank Tracker, Site Audit & Backlinks, AI Brand Visibility and 150 tracked prompts

The $125 Similarweb package is not the same scope as the $333 SEO+AEO package. Comparing Semrush only against Similarweb's lowest headline price can hide the package a search/SEO team would actually need.

Semrush is more execution-oriented; Similarweb starts broader

Semrush's current entry SEO plan centers on recurring search work: keyword/competitor research, daily position tracking, site auditing and AI-search visibility. Similarweb's Competitive Intelligence package starts with broader market and competitor traffic analysis—website performance, traffic and engagement, audience demographics, marketing channels and competitor alerts. Similarweb's higher self-service tier adds SEO and AEO functions on top of that broader competitive layer.

Similarweb's 7-day trial can turn into a paid subscription

Similarweb's current support documentation says its self-service free trial lasts 7 days and is tied to a subscription package. The card used at signup is automatically charged after the trial ends unless the subscription is canceled before the trial expires. Treat the trial deadline as a billing deadline, not merely an evaluation reminder.

Cancellation and refunds are separate questions

Similarweb's current self-service help says a user can cancel from Subscription Information and retain access until the end of the current subscription period. Its legal terms also say paid fees are generally non-refundable and contain term-specific renewal/non-renewal rules. Business and enterprise termination can be governed by a negotiated contract. AlreadyChecked therefore does not publish one universal cancellation or refund rule for every Similarweb customer.

Free Similarweb data is not the paid platform

Similarweb describes the free data on Similarweb.com as a high-level limited sample. Paid packages unlock deeper timeframes, countries, devices and drill-downs. A useful free traffic snapshot should not be treated as proof that the paid Competitive Intelligence package adds no value—or that free data is equivalent to the subscription.

Similarweb data credits are not Semrush tracked keywords

Similarweb uses data credits for consumption across exports, APIs and MCP-related workflows, and its documentation says those balances renew monthly. Similarweb also counts users, historical-data months and tracked prompts. Semrush counts monitored websites and tracked keywords. These are different operating units; dividing one by another does not produce a quality or value score.

Do not let either vendor write the verdict

Similarweb publishes its own Similarweb-vs-Semrush marketing page and makes claims about superiority, coverage, freshness, ratings and affordability. Those vendor-authored marketing claims are useful evidence of positioning, but they are not neutral comparative proof. AlreadyChecked does not turn them into an independent winner declaration.

Business and API needs change the comparison

Similarweb's business/enterprise packages are sales-led and can add deeper historical data, APIs, data feeds, MCP and managed/business features. Its API can also be sold separately. Those packages should not be represented by the $125 individual price. If API or enterprise data delivery is central, compare the actual quoted package and contract rather than extrapolating from the self-service tier.

Which route fits your actual workflow?

Choose Semrush when…

Recurring SEO execution, daily rank monitoring, Site Audit, keyword research and AI-search visibility are the core job.

Choose Similarweb Competitive Intelligence when…

Broader competitor traffic, channel, audience and market intelligence are central.

Choose Similarweb SEO+AEO when…

You need its broader intelligence layer plus keyword/rank/site-audit/AI-visibility tooling in one package.

Important limitations

Tracked keywords, prompts, historical-data months, users and data credits are operating constraints—not proof that one platform has universally better data, freshness, coverage or business outcomes. Self-service terms should not be universalized to negotiated business contracts.
