Local SEO software comparison

Semrush Local vs SE Ranking Local Marketing: which fits your local SEO workload?

Neither is a universal winner. Semrush Local fits buyers who want the local toolkit itself purchased directly per business location inside Semrush. SE Ranking fits buyers who also need a broader SEO/GEO platform and can use its three included Plus Local Marketing locations before adding more. Compare full platform workload and exact location needs rather than headline subscription price alone.

AlreadyChecked Verdict

Choose Semrush Local when local operations are the direct purchase; choose SE Ranking when local marketing sits inside a broader SEO/GEO platform you will also use.

Semrush Local is priced directly per business location. SE Ranking Core and Growth are broader platform subscriptions that currently include three Plus Local Marketing locations, so the honest comparison depends on whether the wider platform work has value to you.

Best for you if… you compare exact location count, Lite-versus-Plus needs, point-keyword tracking workload and total platform scope instead of dividing one vendor's credits by the other's location limits.

Semrush Local Pro$60/month per location billed annuallyBase plus Listing Management, review management/generation and 1,225 Semrush Map Rank Tracker credits
SE Ranking Core$129 month-to-month or $103.20/month equivalent with annual billingBroader SEO/GEO platform that currently includes three Plus Local Marketing locations
SE Ranking Growth$279 month-to-month or $223.20/month equivalent with annual billingHigher-capacity broader SEO/GEO platform that currently includes three Plus Local Marketing locations

SE Ranking's Core and Growth prices cover far more than Local Marketing, including broader rank tracking, research, audit and GEO/AI-search capacity. They are not local-only per-location prices directly equivalent to Semrush Local's $30/$60 structure.

SE Ranking currently includes three Plus local locations

Current Core and Growth comparison material includes 3 Plus Local Marketing locations, a 1,500 Local & Map Rank Tracker base limit, Listing Management across 100+ directories worldwide and GBP Posts. Current annual-billing pricing displays extra locations from $18.40/month equivalent. AlreadyChecked keeps that $18.40 figure tied to the annual-billing selection; this evidence does not prove that $18.40 is the month-to-month extra-location price.

Lite and Plus locations are not the same product allowance

SE Ranking local location typeLocal/Map rank allowanceSelected scope differences
Lite250 keywords per locationGBP integration, rank tracking and narrower listing/review management
Plus500 keywords per locationListings management across 100+ directories, expanded review sources and GBP Posts

SE Ranking says an account can contain a mix of Lite and Plus Local Marketing locations. That flexibility is another reason not to turn the included-location count into one universal per-location price.

Local map tracking uses point-keyword combinations

SE Ranking's current Local Rankings documentation says tracking usage is calculated using point-keyword combinations. Five tracking points with five common keywords consume 25 tracking limits. Current guidance describes a 1,500 base Local Marketing tracking limit, with each extra Plus location adding 500. Those point-keyword units are not equivalent to Semrush Local Map Rank Tracker credits.

The trial flows are materially different

SE Ranking currently offers a 14-day platform trial with no credit card required. Current cancellation help explicitly says this free trial does not renew into a paid subscription and no charge occurs when it ends. Separately, an eligible active SE Ranking subscriber who did not already try Local Marketing during the platform trial can receive a 30-day Local Marketing evaluation starting when the first location is added.

Semrush Local currently has a 7-day trial that converts to the selected paid plan unless canceled beforehand. The SE Ranking 14-day platform trial, conditional 30-day Local Marketing evaluation and Semrush seven-day trial are three different evaluation/billing flows.

Cancellation, add-ons, data retention and refunds are separate questions

Current SE Ranking help says canceling a paid subscription disables auto-renewal while access continues through the current paid billing period. Canceling does not delete the account. After expiration, projects remain stored for 60 days while inactive.

Add-ons purchased in the same bundle or invoice can cancel with the main subscription, while separately invoiced add-ons must be canceled separately. Current SE Ranking pricing/terms say paid or unused funds are generally non-refundable except for poor service inconsistent with obligations or a special promotion. Cancellation does not automatically create a refund.

The Local Marketing API does not use general API credits

SE Ranking's current Local Marketing API is read-only for local location/profile, Google Business Profile, review, listing/citation, ranking and audit/reporting data. Current API guidance says these Local Marketing endpoints do not consume general API credits; access is governed by Local Marketing location limits and request-rate limits.

SE Ranking has an active affiliate program—but this page has no affiliate handoff

SE Ranking currently advertises 30% commission on attributed subscription orders, a 120-day last-click cookie, a $50 payout threshold and twice-monthly payouts. Public affiliate availability does not prove AlreadyChecked is enrolled, owns an issued referral link, controls attribution or has payout custody. This comparison therefore has no project-controlled SE Ranking affiliate destination.

Which route fits your actual workflow?

Choose Semrush Local when…

The local toolkit itself is the purchase and you want it to scale directly per business location inside Semrush.

Choose SE Ranking when…

You also need the broader SEO/GEO platform and can use its three included Plus Local Marketing locations before buying extra local capacity.

Model point-keyword usage when…

Local map tracking is heavy. SE Ranking meters point-keyword combinations rather than independent keywords alone.

Important limitations

Semrush credits, SE Ranking locations, Lite/Plus allowances, point-keyword tracking limits, directory counts and broader platform limits are not interchangeable units. Raw limits do not prove data quality or ranking outcomes.
