There is no honest universal winner. SolidGigs helps you discover leads you pursue independently. Toptal first decides whether you enter its talent network, then provides a different matching and transaction workflow.

SolidGigs vs Toptal at a glance

SolidGigs

Best for: freelancers who already run their own sales and client workflow but want less lead hunting.

Current cost: 14-day free trial, then $35/month or $350/year.

Model: external lead curation; SolidGigs says it takes no percentage of freelancer earnings.

Toptal traditional talent network

Best for: experienced specialists who are willing to pass a selective screen and want curated network access plus matching and platform-handled payment.

Screening: current general talent FAQ says the process typically takes a few weeks.

Talent economics: Toptal says talent sets its own rate and Toptal does not take a cut from that rate.

The first question is whether you want an admission gate

SolidGigs does not describe a selective talent-network admission process. You pay for lead discovery, then decide which external opportunities to pursue.

Toptal requires applicants to pass a multi-stage screening process before joining its traditional talent network. Its current FAQ says successful freelancers typically have at least 2–3 years of relevant experience and the screening process typically takes a few weeks.

If you need opportunities now and do not want a selective application process, that difference can decide the comparison before pricing does.

What does Toptal’s “fewer than 3% accepted” claim mean?

Toptal’s current client-facing FAQ says fewer than 3% of more than 200,000 people who apply annually are accepted.

That is a Toptal-reported screening statistic. It supports the conclusion that admission is selective. It does not independently prove that every accepted freelancer, client or project is safe, elite, suitable, or guaranteed to succeed.

After admission, Toptal handles more of the workflow

Toptal says accepted talent can receive interest/matches based on profile and availability, while members can also search for jobs that interest them.

Talent sets its own hourly rate. Toptal says it handles client billing and invoicing, automates talent payment in USD, and does not take a cut from the rate the talent member sets.

Current talent materials describe full-time (40 hours/week), part-time (20 hours/week), and hourly engagements. Toptal says the vast majority of opportunities are remote; that is not a promise that every opportunity is remote.

SolidGigs leaves the downstream transaction to you

SolidGigs currently lists $35/month or $350/year after a 14-day trial and says it takes no percentage of freelancer earnings.

Its role ends much earlier in the transaction: it sends you to the original opportunity source. The source or direct client then controls application, contract, payment, privacy and dispute terms.

That is more flexible for freelancers with a mature direct-client system, but it is not the same kind of hosted billing/payment infrastructure Toptal describes.

Important 2026 note: Toptal also has a separate TopAccess subscription

Do not confuse TopAccess with the traditional Toptal talent network. Toptal’s TopAccess terms, revised August 11, 2026, describe a separate annual subscription paid in 12 monthly installments. It bundles Toptal Marketplace screening/access with other freelancer and job-board benefits.

Current partner job-seeker material publicly lists TopAccess at $29.95/month on a 12-month commitment with no free trial. Toptal’s own terms say the governing amount is the amount shown at signup and generally keep monthly payments due through the subscription term even after early cancellation, subject to stated exceptions and law.

That subscription is a separate product boundary. This comparison does not use TopAccess pricing as if it were the traditional talent network’s earnings fee or admission charge.

Which one fits you?

I already know how to close and manage direct clients

SolidGigs fits better when finding more external opportunities is the bottleneck.

I want a curated network and platform-handled billing

Toptal fits better if you are willing and able to pass its screening process.

I cannot wait a few weeks for a screening process

SolidGigs may fit better. Its subscription is a lead-discovery purchase, not a selective network application.

I dislike percentage marketplace fees on my talent-set rate

Toptal says it does not take a cut from the rate talent sets. SolidGigs also says it takes no percentage of freelancer earnings. The bigger difference is admission/matching/payment workflow, not a headline percentage.

I want guaranteed admission, work, earnings or clients

Neither. Toptal screening does not guarantee admission or post-admission work; SolidGigs curation does not guarantee lead conversion.

A practical two-channel test

  1. If Toptal is realistic for your experience, evaluate the screening cost in time first. Admission is a prerequisite to the traditional network.
  2. Track Toptal after admission: matches, jobs applied to, interviews/interest, paid utilization, effective rate, downtime and payment experience.
  3. Track SolidGigs: qualified leads, prospecting time saved, pitches, replies, wins, subscription cost and downstream payment costs.
  4. Compare net value. Include admission effort, time saved, conversion and transaction convenience—not just monthly price.
