Current models

SolidGigs

Cost: 14-day free trial, then $35/month or $350/year.

Model: broader multi-source external lead curation for finding freelance opportunities.

MentorCruise

Model: selective hosted marketplace built around recurring professional mentorships, plus some one-off or custom services.

Admission: manually reviewed; current help says fewer than 10% are accepted.

Selectivity does not guarantee demand or income

MentorCruise markets a selective mentor network and gives provider-reported earnings context, including an average monthly mentor payout around $500 per month and low four figures for top mentors.

Those figures are useful context, not an AlreadyChecked earnings forecast. Acceptance does not guarantee mentees, utilization, recurring subscriptions, consulting work or earnings, and the provider itself says rejection can reflect supply and demand rather than skill.

The fee model has more than one number

MentorCruise's current fee help says the exact calculation can vary by product, cost and rounding. For ordinary predefined mentoring plans, it describes a global-average take rate around 16.6% of the mentee-facing transaction and generally adds roughly a 20% markup on top of the mentor-set payout amount.

For example, a mentor-set $100 amount can be displayed to a mentee around $120 before separate payment-processing costs affect the final payout. But MentorCruise also documents different treatment for Pro plans, one-off sessions and custom plans, so we do not describe 16.6% or 20% as a universal fee for every transaction.

Keep the layers separate: mentor-set amount, mentee-facing public price, MentorCruise platform fee, payment-processor fee, bank/FX costs and final received payout are not the same number.

Stripe and Borderless are different payout flows

For Stripe Connect, current help says Stripe generally processes mentor payouts within 7 days. Some countries can have faster three-day or instant options, but availability and timing are not universal. Card-processing examples are estimates and vary by card type and country.

For Borderless/direct bank transfer, current help describes a payout receipt at the start of the month, typically around the 4th of the month, covering prior-month transactions. Processor charges, currency conversion and Borderless fees can reduce the final receipt.

We therefore do not promise one universal payout day, one universal payout method, fee-free receipt or a guaranteed net take-home amount.

A recurring mentorship can still have payment risk

MentorCruise's current failed-payment guidance says mentors should stop providing further calls while a mentee payment remains unresolved. If the issue is not fixed within about a week, the mentorship can be canceled—and the provider says it cannot offer a payout or compensation for those unpaid services.

That is an important boundary: recurring subscriptions are not risk-free guaranteed mentor revenue.

Refunds can leave costs behind

Current MentorCruise refund guidance says Stripe processing fees are not returned when a mentor issues a Stripe refund. The MentorCruise platform fee is also not automatically returned in that workflow; the mentor needs to contact support so the transaction can be reviewed.

We therefore do not assume every refunded transaction restores every platform, processor, bank or FX cost.

Trial format is not completely universal

Most mentors currently offer a 7-day free trial for a new mentee after mentor acceptance and payment setup. MentorCruise also documents intro-call or adjusted trial styles for some mentors. That is a mentee onboarding rule—not a mentor earnings guarantee.

External communication is allowed; payment circumvention is not

MentorCruise allows mentors and mentees to communicate through channels such as email or Slack, but says important billing or plan changes should remain documented on the platform. Its current policy says off-platform payment circumvention is strictly prohibited and can lead to warnings or suspension.

We do not recommend bypassing those rules or imply that platform dispute/refund protections remain unchanged if payment is moved outside MentorCruise.
