| Choice | Best for | Current cost | Biggest advantage | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Independent discovery SolidGigs | Freelancers across broader categories who already manage pitching, contracts and payment themselves. | $35/month or $350/year after a 14-day free trial. | Predictable fixed-cost discovery across multiple external sources. | No leads, clients, hours or earnings are guaranteed; downstream transactions remain outside SolidGigs. |
| Developer network Gun.io | Experienced software developers who can pass selective approval and prefer curated matching plus managed contracts/billing/payments. | Gun.io currently says developers keep 100% of the rate they set and that Gun.io fees are charged to clients. | Specialized matching with contracts, time tracking, billing and payment administration. | Approval and placement are not guaranteed; 100% of the developer-set rate is not 100% of every client-facing dollar; current payment marketing does not override contractual/compliance conditions. |

Rate boundary: Gun.io currently says developers keep 100% of the rate they set and that Gun.io fees are charged to clients. That means the developer-set rate is preserved; it does not mean the developer receives 100% of every client-facing dollar.
Trust boundary: This is a manually researched editorial comparison. It is not an A✓/CHECKED automated verification record and carries no A✓/CHECKED approval badge. This support page contains no direct merchant affiliate destination.

Gun.io's current FAQ says only approved talent users are presented as finalists and reports roughly 100 approved developers from about 1,000 new developers each month. Current hiring pages also describe algorithmic screening, work-history/background review and a live technical interview with a senior engineer. Those are provider-reported processes and statistics; they do not independently guarantee quality, safety, approval or placement.
Gun.io says developers are paid exactly the rate they request or keep 100% of the rate they set, and that Gun.io fees are charged to clients. Its client-facing pricing can include Gun.io's own fee structure. We therefore do not describe a developer as receiving every dollar a client pays, and we do not turn Gun.io's client-facing hourly tiers, packages or direct-hire fees into freelancer-side deductions.
Gun.io's current FAQ says each payment covers a week of logged time and is paid in weekly increments on net-30 terms. In practical terms, each billing week's logged hours are paid 30 days from the end of that week, producing a weekly cadence after the initial month.
Gun.io also uses guaranteed-payment language in current developer marketing. That is Gun.io's provider promise. AlreadyChecked does not convert it into an independent unconditional guarantee that overrides every contract, dispute, fraud, compliance, time-reporting, tax or termination condition.
Current provider material says Gun.io handles contracts, hours tracking, billing and payments and supports both parties during the engagement. Its FAQ also says Gun.io can negotiate rate on a developer's behalf, while developers retain the final say on rate decisions.
Gun.io says opportunities are with companies personally vetted by its team and that it assesses price tolerance and technical expectations before introductions. That is provider-controlled screening, not independent proof that every client is safe, solvent or cancellation-proof.
Gun.io also describes pre-contract communication controls, a two-year client non-solicitation commitment and buyout arrangements for some off-platform or full-time transitions. Moving a relationship outside the platform can remove Gun.io platform benefits, so we do not recommend bypassing those rules.
You work across broader freelance categories, already manage client relationships independently and want external opportunity discovery for a fixed recurring subscription.
You are an experienced software developer, are willing to pass selective approval, and prefer curated technical matching plus contracts, time tracking, billing and payment administration.
AlreadyChecked verdict: No universal winner. SolidGigs fits fixed-cost external opportunity discovery and downstream independence; Gun.io fits experienced software developers who pass selective approval and prefer curated matching plus platform-managed commercial administration.
