SolidGigs vs Catalant: broad freelance leads or enterprise consulting projects?

Choose SolidGigs when your bottleneck is finding broader external freelance opportunities and you prefer downstream independence. Choose Catalant when you are an independent consultant or consulting firm pursuing enterprise project work and want hosted matching, pitches, Project Agreements, client-approval payment administration and collections support.

AlreadyChecked Verdict

No universal winner: choose broad independent lead discovery or enterprise consulting infrastructure.

SolidGigs fits freelancers who want broader external opportunities and downstream independence. Catalant fits independent consultants and firms pursuing enterprise projects who value hosted matching, proposals, Project Agreements, payment administration and collections support enough to accept verification, insurance and relationship requirements.

Best for you if… you specifically want enterprise consulting projects and can absorb the compliance burden—especially client approval, payment timing, insurance and non-circumvention—in exchange for more hosted infrastructure.

Current models

SolidGigs

Cost: 14-day free trial, then $35/month or $350/year.

Model: broader external freelance lead discovery; pitching, contracts and payment typically happen downstream.

Catalant

Model: hosted Expert Marketplace for independent consultants and consulting firms pursuing project-based enterprise work, with search/matching, pitches, interviews, proposals, Project Agreements, payment requests and collections support.

Catalant “verified” is a provider process—not an AlreadyChecked badge

Catalant's current consultant page says applicants can apply to become verified and that its team checks whether a consultant's background aligns with customer needs. The provider states that this process takes 2–5 business days.

That is useful process information, but it does not prove independent quality, safety or results. It also does not guarantee every application is completed in exactly 2–5 business days, accepted, matched, interviewed, awarded a project or paid. Catalant verification does not create an A✓/CHECKED approval.

A match, pitch or proposal is not a signed Project

Current Catalant consultant guidance describes in-platform search/matching, pitches, client review, interviews and proposals. The Project Agreement is where the actual engagement can define timeline, approach, deliverables, fees, confidentiality and work-product ownership.

Catalant says projects can last weeks, months or even years and may lead to follow-on opportunities. Those are provider opportunity examples—not guaranteed project duration, utilization, repeat work or income.

The Expert Marketplace can be free—but not under every optional-service choice

Current Expert Terms say use of the Expert Marketplace is free unless the Expert opts into additional services that may carry separate fees.

That means baseline marketplace access and optional paid services should remain separate. It would be inaccurate to say every Catalant Expert always pays nothing in every circumstance.

Your Fee is separate from Catalant and Compliance Fees

Current Expert Terms say Your Fee and approved Project Expenses are agreed between the Expert and Client in the applicable Project Agreement.

The same Terms say displayed Catalant Fee and Compliance Fee amounts are paid by the Client and are not deducted from amounts owed to the Expert. Those client-side platform/compliance charges therefore should not be turned into a universal consultant commission or automatically subtracted from Expert compensation.

Client approval starts the ordinary marketplace payment clock

Current Expert Terms say Catalant shall not make payments without Client approval. Experts must submit the required payment request, timesheets, invoices or other documentation through the Services.

For ordinary Expert Marketplace projects, current Terms say Catalant or its payment processor will remit approved Your Fee, approved expenses and other approved amounts within 60 days following Client approval.

The Terms also say those ordinary Project payments are collected and remitted regardless of when Catalant receives payment from the Client. That separates two events: Client approval and Catalant's receipt from the Client.

Catalant's consultant marketing says it facilitates prompt payment and handles collections. We do not use that marketing phrase to shorten the contractual 60-day-after-Client-approval boundary.

Final receipt can still involve FX, transaction fees or disputes

Unless otherwise agreed in the Project Agreement, current Expert Terms say payment is made in United States dollars and the Expert bears exchange-rate fluctuations or transaction fees.

Current Terms also say disputed payments may be withheld until resolution. If Catalant determines the Expert is responsible for a dispute or support issue, certain damages or costs may be deducted from amounts otherwise remitted.

So the platform's collections/payment workflow should not be described as unconditional payment protection or fee-free final receipt.

Payroll-provider projects can use a different payment process

Current Expert Terms say a client-required compliance evaluation can classify an Expert as an employee for a Project. In that case, the Expert may need to become an employee of a third-party payrolling provider, and that provider controls payment processes and timelines.

That exception matters: the ordinary 60-day Expert Marketplace timing should not be universalized to every project that moves into a payroll-provider arrangement.

Catalant has a material insurance requirement

Current Expert Terms require errors-and-omissions insurance with at least $2,000,000 aggregate coverage for a one-year policy period while the Expert is engaged in Expert Services. Catalant may request evidence, and a Client can impose additional insurance requirements.

That is a real participation/compliance cost and should be considered separately from marketplace access fees.

A 12-month non-circumvention period applies

Current Expert Terms impose a 12-month Non-Circumvention Period measured from the later of first identification/being identified by the Client or completion of the last Project with that Client.

During the covered period, the Services remain the required channel for covered bidding, invoicing and payment. Catalant therefore should not be treated as merely a passive job board, and covered relationships should not be assumed movable off-platform without consequence.

Practice Community is separate from ordinary marketplace access

Catalant also operates Practice Communities. Its current page says membership has no cost, but access is selective and requirements/invitation based.

That means Practice Community access and benefits are not automatic for every Expert and should not be mixed into the baseline Expert Marketplace comparison.
