FlexJobs vs JustRemote: start free, test PowerSearch, or pay for specialist screening?

Start with JustRemote's public board when you want a zero-cost baseline for remote-job discovery. Treat PowerSearch as a separate paid experiment whose current public page verifies $6 for the first month only. Choose FlexJobs when provider-stated screening, specialist filters, and broader flexible-work tools save enough search and verification time to justify the higher subscription cost.

AlreadyChecked Verdict

Start with JustRemote's free board; test PowerSearch only as a bounded first-month experiment; pay FlexJobs when specialist screening and broader scope earn the cost.

JustRemote's public board is the strongest first step when you want a zero-cost remote-job baseline. PowerSearch is a separate paid discovery experiment with a currently verified $6 first month, not a proven permanent $6 subscription. FlexJobs is the stronger paid fit when provider-run screening, specialist filtering and broader remote/hybrid/part-time/freelance coverage create measurable incremental value.

Best for you if… you exhaust the free board first, record genuinely new eligible roles during any PowerSearch test, verify its renewal price before extending, and use FlexJobs only if a specialist paid workflow still solves an unmet problem.

Checked September 4, 2026. This receipt summarizes evidence already researched on this page; it is not an A✓/CHECKED automated-verification badge.

The real decision is not simply “JustRemote or FlexJobs.” JustRemote currently has a public board plus a separate PowerSearch product. Those workflows have different prices, claims, and verification limits, so AlreadyChecked does not blend them into one paid product.

Trust boundary: This is a manually researched editorial comparison. It is not an A✓/CHECKED automated verification record and carries no A✓/CHECKED approval badge. No affiliate handoff is approved on this page.

FlexJobs vs JustRemote at a glance

JustRemote public board

Best for: people who want to browse remote-job categories and listings before paying for candidate access.

Current candidate cost: no subscription gate was presented on the public category/listing surfaces we checked.

Important limitation: JustRemote accepts both fully and partially remote roles, and remote status does not remove country, location, schedule, or timezone restrictions.

JustRemote PowerSearch

Best for: people who want to test JustRemote's separate hidden-jobs discovery layer as a bounded paid experiment.

Current verified offer: first month $6, unlimited access, cancel anytime, no contract.

Important limitation: the current public page does not clearly disclose the recurring price after the first month, and its 30% advertised / 70% hidden-jobs claim is provider marketing rather than independently audited inventory proof.

FlexJobs

Best for: people who value remote/flexible specialization, provider-stated screening, filters, and member workflow enough to pay.

Current cost: $2.95 for 14-day full access, then $23.95 every four weeks unless cancelled; $29.85 upfront for three months; $71.40 upfront annually.

Important limitation: screening remains provider-controlled process evidence rather than an independent AlreadyChecked safety guarantee.

JustRemote's public board is the zero-cost baseline

JustRemote's current public job surfaces expose remote-job categories, listings, and applicant-location filters without presenting a candidate subscription gate on those pages.

That makes the public board a rational first test: define your exact role, seniority, location, timezone, salary, authorization, and work-arrangement requirements, then see whether the free surface already produces credible eligible matches.

JustRemote is not fully-remote-only

JustRemote's current employer posting workflow explicitly accepts both fully remote and partially remote roles and says a listing must allow at least two remote-working days per week.

Do not assume every listing is 100% remote, permanently remote, or work-from-anywhere. Check the individual role's location, onsite expectations, schedule, and employer requirements.

Remote still has geography and schedule boundaries

JustRemote's employer workflow includes country-residency requirements, job-location fields, and minimum working-hour-overlap requirements. Current job surfaces also expose applicant-location filters.

Count a role only after confirming country or state eligibility, work authorization, timezone overlap, schedule, tax, licensing, and any onsite requirement that matters to you.

The $189 JustRemote price is for employers—not job seekers

JustRemote currently charges employers $189 for a 30-day job listing. That is employer-side acquisition pricing and should not be presented as the cost for a job seeker to browse the public board.

Employer monetization is also not proof that a listing is more legitimate, more exclusive, or more likely to result in a hire.

PowerSearch is a separate paid product

JustRemote PowerSearch currently advertises unlimited access for the first month at $6 and says users can cancel anytime with no contracts.

That supports a bounded first-month purchase test. It does not support stating that PowerSearch costs $6 every recurring month, because the current public page does not clearly disclose the later recurring price.

Do not turn the 70% hidden-jobs claim into inventory proof

PowerSearch says companies advertise only 30% of openings and that JustRemote surfaces the remaining 70% as hidden roles.

AlreadyChecked has not independently audited that market-size claim, normalized PowerSearch inventory against FlexJobs, or proved that those roles are exclusive, fresher, or larger in number. The claim therefore remains provider-controlled marketing rather than ranking proof.

Application paths can move outside JustRemote

JustRemote's employer submission workflow includes an open-ended “How should people apply” field instead of proving one universal hosted application path.

That means some applications can move into employer, email, or other downstream systems. Verify the destination domain, privacy terms, security posture, and unusual requests before sending sensitive information.

JustRemote warns about recruiter impersonation

JustRemote's current contact page says it will never contact users directly offering remote-work opportunities and advises users to block and report people claiming to be JustRemote recruiters.

That warning is useful fraud-prevention evidence. It is not proof that every listing is unsafe, and it is not proof that every interaction that looks legitimate is automatically safe.

Older legal documents do not override newer live behavior

JustRemote's currently published privacy policy and terms show a January 5, 2020 update date and discuss accounts, paid accounts, and third-party payment gateways.

Where those documents are silent about newer workflows such as PowerSearch, AlreadyChecked uses current live product behavior for the product comparison while preserving the legal-document freshness limitation.

FlexJobs charges for a more specialized flexible-work workflow

FlexJobs requires paid membership for its comprehensive remote/flexible database and currently lists remote, hybrid, part-time, freelance, and other flexible-work opportunities across 50+ career categories.

The value question is whether provider-stated screening, specialist filters, alerts, and member workflow save enough time or verification work to exceed that cost for your exact search.

FlexJobs screening remains provider-controlled evidence

FlexJobs says its jobs are screened or verified and markets its service around reducing scams and low-quality listings.

AlreadyChecked has not independently audited every listing or every later recruiter interaction, so we do not convert that process into an independent zero-scam guarantee.

Current first-party pricing beats stale third-party pricing

A current 2026 remote-job roundup includes JustRemote but still quotes older FlexJobs prices such as $9.95 per week and $24.95 per month.

Those figures are stale against FlexJobs' current first-party pricing. For a paid-access decision, current provider pricing must override old roundup pricing.

Which one should you use?

I want to browse before paying

Start with JustRemote's public board. It gives you a free baseline before buying another discovery layer.

I want to test hidden-job discovery cheaply

Consider PowerSearch as a first-month experiment. The current page supports a $6 first month; verify renewal pricing before continuing.

I want provider screening and specialist flexible-work tools

FlexJobs may fit better. Pay only if those features create measurable eligible opportunities or meaningfully reduce verification/search work.

I want guaranteed safety

Neither. Provider screening, hidden-job claims, and impersonation warnings do not justify an independent universal safety guarantee.

I need fully remote or work-from-anywhere only

Check each role. JustRemote explicitly accepts partially remote listings, and both services can surface roles with location, timezone, authorization, or schedule restrictions.

I want guaranteed interviews or offers

Neither. We found no evidence supporting guaranteed recruiter replies, interviews, offers, employment, or faster hiring.

A practical three-step test

  1. Define one exact search: role, seniority, location, timezone, salary, authorization, and work arrangement.
  2. Run it on JustRemote's public board first. Count only credible roles you are actually eligible to pursue.
  3. If the free surface is too narrow, consider PowerSearch only as a bounded first-month test. Record genuinely new eligible roles and verify renewal pricing before extending the purchase.
  4. If you still need stronger specialist filtering or provider-stated screening, run the same search during FlexJobs' 14-day access period.
  5. Continue paying only where measurable value appears. That can mean additional eligible roles, lower search time, or materially less verification work.

What we refused to assume

Commercial boundary

No affiliate handoff is approved on this page. A fresh project-mail recheck found no project-controlled JustRemote affiliate/referral agreement or production destination, and no FlexJobs production affiliate destination is currently proven. Affiliate economics did not influence the comparison.
